In a Nautical GPS the target is generally the destination point of our route, that is where we want to go that will be set through the GoTo function.
In a radar, the target corresponds to the detection of an object (stationary or moving) that is shown on the display so that it can be analyzed and thus avoid a possible collision.
On an AIS device the target normally corresponds to another vessel to be monitored in order to avoid a collision.
